Srisailam travel guide for first-time pilgrims
How to reach the hill, what to expect at darshan, where to go after the temple — and where to rest between it all.
Getting There
How to reach Srisailam
By road
APSRTC and private buses run from Hyderabad (about 210 km), Kurnool (about 180 km) and Vijayawada. The ghat road through Nallamala forest closes to traffic at night, so plan to reach before dusk.
By train
Markapur Road and Kurnool City are the usual railheads; buses and taxis connect onward to the hill.
By air
Hyderabad (Shamshabad) is the nearest major airport, followed by Kurnool's Orvakal airport.
By car
A comfortable half-day drive from Hyderabad. Fuel up before the forest stretch and park on-site at the satram.
Darshan
Timings, sevas and queues
The temple generally opens around 4:30 AM for Mangala Vaayidyam and Suprabhata Seva and closes near 10:00 PM, with breaks through the day for abhishekam and alankaram. Sparsha darshanam, Abhishekam, Kumkumarchana and Rudra Homam are among the sevas devotees book most often; tickets and slots are issued by the Devasthanam and change on festival days.
Because timings shift with the temple calendar, always confirm the day's schedule after you arrive — our reception shares the current darshan and seva timings with every guest at check-in, and can point you to the right queue line for your ticket.
Around the Hill
Places to visit in Srisailam
Sri Bhramaramba Mallikarjuna Temple
The Jyotirlinga and Shakti Peetha together — the reason most pilgrims come.
Pathala Ganga
The Krishna river ghat below the temple, reached by steps or ropeway; many take a holy dip before darshan.
Sakshi Ganapati
Traditionally visited after darshan, where Ganapati is said to record your pilgrimage.
Akkamahadevi Caves
Reached by boat on the Krishna backwaters, with a natural Shivalinga inside.
Srisailam Dam
A dramatic viewpoint over the Krishna gorge, a short drive from town.
Shikaresvara & Hatakeswaram
Ancient shrines on the hill, quieter than the main temple.
Best Time to Visit
October to March is the kindest season
Winter brings cool air over the Nallamala hills and comfortable queues. Maha Shivaratri Brahmotsavam and Karthika Masam are spiritually the richest times to visit but also the most crowded — book your room weeks ahead. Summers are hot on the plains below, and the monsoon makes the ghat road beautiful but slow.
Wherever your dates fall, a room within walking distance of the temple saves hours of travel each day.
